In the far north of Zimbabwe, on the southern banks of the beautiful Zambezi River, lies one of the country's two World Heritage Sites - Mana Pools National Park. A paradise for walking and canoeing safaris, Mana Pools is a wonderfully biodiverse wilderness that literally has everything a discerning safari traveller could ask for - phenomenal wildlife encounters, spectacular scenery and one of Africa's greatest rivers running past it.
This is where the Zambezi is wide and lazy, thanks to the Kariba Dam upstream and the Cahora Bassa Dam downstream in Mozambique. It's girth is broken up by lush islands filled with life and vast sandbanks where crocodiles and hippos sun themselves, lapped by the steady, controlled flow of the mighty river through the Lower Zambezi Valley. Across the river is Zambia which shares the incredible views over the wide Mana floodplains that are home to some of Southern Africa's biggest herds of elephant and buffalo.
Remote and untamed, Mana Pools offers authentic wilderness experiences and the chance to completely immerse yourself in a pristine, wild African environment. Predators are plentiful here, with lion, leopard, cheetah and painted wolves (African wild dogs) in abundance. Game activities range from bush walks and tracking painted wolves on foot to boat-based game viewing, fishing and canoeing.
Famed for its understated bush camps and lodges that blend effortlessly into the wilderness surrounding them, Mana Pools offers an exceptional retreat away from the madding existence of urban life and affords guests the chance to switch off and reconnect with nature.
