With a history dating back to the 11th century, the city of Inhambane is a cultural melting pot with Arabic, Persian and Portuguese influences and is just over 450km from the capital city of Maputo and has its own airport and bustling harbour.
Located on a beautiful bay and renowned for its incredible beaches, including Tofo and Barra, the ocean off Inhambane is filled with a rich diversity of marine life, including one of a last remaining populations of dugong in Mozambique. Its centre offers a vibrant and eclectic collection of shops, restaurants and sidewalk cafes as well as some interesting markets. The harbour is the perfect place to relax with a cold beer and watch dhows sail past.
This is also one of Mozambique's busiest dive centres where you can see manta rays and whale sharks in season. The fishing is also excellent and a variety of watersports are on offer. A wide range of accommodation is available in and around Inhambane, from luxury beach resorts to self-catering cottages on the beach.
Inhambane's Barra peninsula is a wonderful destination for families and couples alike, with its wonderful beaches and estuary. vehicles or transfers. Or visit the Linga Linga peninsula which is only accessible by 4X4 or boat!
