If you want to see African elephants in huge numbers then there's only one place to go - Chobe National Park! This is where elephant herds can number in the hundreds as they come down to the Chobe River to drink and graze on the grassy banks and islands. It's "Elephant Central" and known the world over as the land of the giants.
There are an estimated 120,000 elephants in Chobe, along with enormous herds of buffalo. The park is also renowned for its predator sightings, especially where lion and leopard are concerned and the river itself has a wealth of wildlife in and around it, from hippos and crocodiles to plains game, as well as incredible birdlife.
The second largest national park in Botswana, Chobe covers 11,700 square kilometres and offers one of the greatest concentrations of game in Africa across its diverse habitats which range from vast floodplains to swamps and woodlands. The Chobe River forms its northern border (and a border with neighbouring Namibia) on its way to meet the mighty Zambezi, and the park is accessed by the bustling safari town of Kasane, which has its own, small international airport.
There are a variety of safari options on offer in Chobe, from luxury riverfront safari lodges to well-run camp sites where we offer the chance to enjoy an "Out of Africa" glamping experience in a luxury mobile tented camp. Set up under tall shade trees close to the edge of the river inside the national park, our mobile tented camps offer guests the chance to immerse themselves in the African wilderness with a full-service, guided safari like no other!
Combine a few nights in a mobile tented camp with a wonderful stay in a five-star lodge on the Chobe River before boarding one of the many luxury houseboats that cruise along the River north of Kasane, hugging the Namibian border. Spend you final nights discovering the upper stretches of the Chobe, stopping along the way for game activities in specially designed safari boats that get you close to the plethora of wildlife that calls the river home.
It's not to be missed!
