Welcome to paradise! The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of six beautiful islands off the coast of Vilanculos in southern Mozambique and is one of the country's main tourism hotspots, thanks to its powdery, white sand beaches and crystal-clear turquoise ocean.
Part of the Bazaruto national marine park which strives to protect the area's most critically endangered species - the dugong - the biggest of the islands is Bazaruto itself. Known for its impressive sands dunes and stunning beaches, the coral reefs off Bazaruto and its sister islands of Magaruque, Benguerra, Banque and Santa Carolina are also a major drawcard, attracting divers and snorkelling enthusiasts from across the world.
The islands, together with the coastline north and south of Vilanculos, are home to some of the country's finest and most sustainable beach resorts and boutique hotels, giving travellers a lot of different options when it comes to finding wonderful accommodation. Combined with a host of incredible activities from a range of exciting watersports and sundowner cruises in traditional dhows to deep-sea fishing and horse riding.
Vilanculos is also home to a wonderful international airport served by a number of different airlines, making it the perfect "add-on" to a wildlife safari in either neighbouring South Africa or Botswana.
